Several Businesses, One Sign-In
Open every business you work in with the same phone, email, passkey or connected account, and switch between them.
If you own or work in more than one business on InventX, you no longer need a different email or mobile number for each. One sign-in (your mobile number, email, passkeys, connected Google, Microsoft or Facebook accounts and two-step verification) can open all of them.
Each business still keeps its own plan, billing, seats, users, permissions, lock state and held invoices. Your account in each business also keeps its own username and password.
Signing in
When you sign in with an email code, a text code, a passkey or Google, Microsoft or Facebook, InventX knows who you are but not which business you want:
- With one business, you go straight to it.
- With several, you see Choose a business: each business with your role in it (Owner, Admin or Staff). Click one to open it.
- A business you can't open right now (your account or the business is disabled, or your seat is unpaid) is shown greyed out with the reason. A business whose subscription needs paying is marked Payment overdue and still opens.
Signing in with a username and password opens that account's business directly, with no picker.
Two-step verification runs once, before the picker, whichever business you go on to choose.
Switching business
In the new dashboard, click the business name at the top of the sidebar and pick another business from the list (type to search it). The list also offers Add another business and Link another sign-in, which open Linked businesses.
In the classic dashboard, click the profile menu on the top right → Switch business and pick another business. Add or link a business at the bottom of that list opens Linked businesses.
- The current business is ticked; greyed-out businesses can't be chosen.
- If you have two-step verification on and this sign-in didn't use a second step (for example you signed in with a username and password and two-step verification was turned on later), you are asked to confirm it's you first.
- Switching signs you out of the business you were in and opens the new one. Other InventX tabs in the same browser reload into the new business, so no tab shows one business's data under another's sign-in.
Linked businesses
Click the Profile Icon → Profile and scroll to Linked businesses (or search Quick search for "Linked businesses"). It lists every business this sign-in opens, marks This business, and offers two actions.
Add another business
Add another business creates a new business you own, on its own 14-day Pro trial:
- Enter the business name, country and timezone.
- Choose a username and password for the new business's owner account. The new account uses your sign-in mobile number and email.
- If your sign-in mobile number or email was never confirmed, enter the code sent to it. (A mobile number we can't text right now has to be confirmed later, or changed in your profile, before you can add a business.)
- If you use two-step verification and haven't confirmed it in this session, confirm it's you.
You are moved to the new business once it's ready. You can add up to three businesses a day.
Link another sign-in
If you already sign in to InventX with a different mobile number or email (for example, you created a second business before this feature existed), Link another sign-in joins the two, so the other sign-in's businesses open with this one too:
- Choose whether the other sign-in uses a mobile number or an email, and enter it.
- Enter your password: the password of the account you're signed in to now.
- Enter the code sent to the other sign-in. The mobile number or email you entered must be one the other sign-in has confirmed (for example by signing in with a code to it); one it never confirmed can't link the two.
- If the other sign-in uses two-step verification, confirm it too. The password of one of its accounts also counts.
- If both sign-ins have the same provider connected (two Google accounts, say), choose which one to keep.
This sign-in's mobile number and email are kept; the other's fill in only what this one is missing. Two-step verification stays on if either had it. Anyone signed in through the other sign-in is signed out. Each account keeps its own Business email.
Signing up or joining with a phone or email you already use
When you start a free trial or register with an invite using a mobile number or email that already signs in to InventX, the form shows This already signs in to InventX and sends a code to it. Enter the code and the new account joins that sign-in, so it appears in your business picker.
If that number or email was entered on another account but never confirmed there, you see Confirm this is yours instead. The code then moves the number or email to your new account, and the other account's owner is told by email.
Only Sri Lankan mobile numbers are used for text-code sign-in. A mobile number from another country doesn't stop two accounts using it.
Your sign-in details
In Profile:
- Sign-in email and Mobile belong to your sign-in, so they are the same in every business. Codes and password resets go to them. Changing either sends a code to the new address or number, and the change applies to all your businesses.
- Business email is separate for each business: it's where that business sends your mail (stock alerts, billing, approvals). It isn't used to sign in, reset your password or send your usernames.
- Two-step verification, passkeys and connected accounts are also shared across your businesses: set them up once.
An administrator in one of your businesses can't change your sign-in mobile or email, or reset your two-step verification or passkeys, while you also sign in to other businesses. They are shown "This person signs in to other businesses too. Ask them to change it, or contact InventX support."
Lockdown
Locking down one of your businesses also signs you out of your other businesses.
